I’ve had the last (almost) week off of work and it’s been quite productive. I spent the weekend back in Northampton for my friend’s baby’s naming ceremony. It was such a lovely day, although as a guide parent I did a short reading which was a little scary but it went ok! They had a wish tree where we all wrote a little wish and attached it to a tree which was a really nice idea. It was great to catch up with friends too.
I’ve spent a lot of my time off doing shopping in preparation for my work trip to Zambia which is quickly coming up. I think I’ve mentioned it on my blog before but I probably spoke about it when it was first booked about 18 months ago – and it’s now only about seven weeks away, eek! It’s come around so, so quickly. I’ve been shopping around buying lots of clothes and camping bits which I’d struggled to find the time to do before so it’s been really useful to have these last few days off.
That’s the thing about having extra time off when you don’t go away – it just helps to get on top of the things you need to do that you don’t have the chance to do over a normal weekend. It sounds like boring stuff but it’s helpful! I’ve done lots of cleaning, a bit of gardening, general adulting.
It hasn’t all been boring though,on one of my shopping trips into Brighton I finally checked out Black Mocha. It’s a coffee shop which I discovered on Instagram and they caught my eye because they seemed to have so many delicious looking gluten-free treats on offer. I wasn’t disappointed! I had a lovely dairy-free chocolate iced shake and a sourdough sarnie. There was a nice relaxed vibe in there too. I don’t often treat myself to a coffee or lunch out when I’m in town but I should do it more.
I bought a second hand Kindle recently too, which you may have seen if you follow me on Instagram. Actually the one I showed on Instagram turned out to be faulty so I had to return it and buy another! I’d always been dead against Kindles in the past because I like physically holding a book and turning the pages. I suppose I used to be the same with CDs, I liked having a real CD and seeing the artwork. But now that I’ve started reading a bit more and am buying more and more books I’ve realised I’m having storage issues. Our bookcase is close to breaking point. And aside from cookbooks and a handful of my favourites, I don’t pick up many books again so it seems silly to keep hold of them. So a Kindle made the cut. I’ve only had it a few days but I’m enjoying it already and I’ve been looking for any excuse to pick it up.
I’ve been enjoying painting my nails (which, somehow, I’m still not biting!) recently. I’m loving this Leighton Denny recently – the shade is ‘Meet me in Monaco’. Pretty, huh?
I hope you’ve all been enjoying the lovely sunshine we’ve been having this week!
