A few days before going to Menorca I found an old compact camera I forgot I had and decided to take it on holiday with me. My DSLR was a little too bulky to be carry around (plus would take up all my hand luggage space) and I didn’t want to use my iPhone as I had a complete digital detox planned for the whole week (read about it here).
The compact camera’s battery was dead and as I was short on time, and the camera was quite old, I knew I’d have to go to a specialist camera shop to pick up a battery rather than somewhere like Currys or Argos which didn’t appear to have the battery type I needed listed on their websites. So anyway, long story short, after work one day I decided to drive to a specialist shop in the middle of nowhere and got a bit lost trying to find it. I was relying on Google Maps on my phone to guide me and it’s never let me down before. Until now. The good thing about getting lost though was that I stumbled upon a lovely pretty little village in Sussex on my way – Cuckfield. I made a note of it and decided that one day soon Rob and I should return for a little look around.
Well that day was last Sunday! (Wow that was a long introduction).
As it was such a lovely sunny day we thought it was the perfect weather for a little drive and walk around the countryside so we set off with our sunscreen, sunglasses and camera.
Although Cuckfield is only about 15 miles outside of Brighton it was nice to get a change of scenery too and explore somewhere new.
While we were exploring we also drove through a village called Staplefield and stumbled across a pub called the Victory Inn which overlooked a big village green so we decided to stop for lunch. The food was delicious. Rob had a Jerk Chicken Burger with mango mayonnaise and skinny fries and I had a Cobb Salad which was the heftiest (and most filling) salad I’ve ever had. It had grilled chicken, avocado, goat’s cheese and a soft boiled egg. I didn’t take a photo because I wanted to stuff my face immediately and enjoy it but take my word for it, it was amazing!
I received a lot of supportive messages following the post I wrote about feeling a bit down recently, so thank you so much to everyone who got in touch. I’m hoping that a little self care will be the answer – I’m going to put some plans into action and will report back.
Here are a few things I’ve been enjoying recently:
Over the last week we finally got around to watching Marcella, it’s one of many TV series that had been sitting in our list of things to watch on Catch up and Netflix for a while. We’d been keen to watch this after enjoying Danish/Swedish series The Bridge, which was written by the same person. I won’t give anything away but we were a little disappointed with the ending!
We then watched Undercover which was also good, but similarly I felt a bit frustrated by the ending! Next up is probably Peaky Blinders as I’ve heard a lot of good things about it. Let me know if you have any other recommendations I may not have seen!
Also this week, I bought a new fake lavender plant for the bathroom. I’ve never bought a fake plant before and have previously never really seen the point of them but this looked cute and made me smile and I thought would brighten up the room a bit – commitment-free, perfect for me right now, I can’t commit to much!
I’ve been enjoying having proper lunch breaks at work which I wrote about on Wednesday – read it here if you missed it. It’s actually making a real difference so far! I might feel differently in the winter but it’s been nice getting outside for a walk in the sun and it’s made me feel calmer through the afternoon. And on one day as I was working from home I went swimming in my lunch break and I really enjoyed that too.
Swimming was much harder than I remember it being, I’m obviously much less fit than I realised but I’m actually looking forward to going again so that’s really positive progress 🙂
