Happy Easter everyone! I hope you’re having a good one.
I know some people treat Easter a bit like Christmas in terms of spending it with their family and eating lots of fancy food. I don’t really do anything like that with my family, but Rob and I did have some hot cross buns (mine were gluten free) and I got us some chocolate eggs. So yes, tradition, we got ya. I’ve also gorged on a MaltEaster bunny. They’re just so damn good, I could easily eat one a day and put on 20 stone. I hope they stick around after Easter so I can see if I can fulfil that challenge.
At the time you read this I will have just spent a night at a pub/B&B in West Sussex (but I’m writing this on Saturday) so I’ll chat about that next week.
I’ve been loving the long weekend. I booked Thursday off work so I’ve had an extra long weekend – it’ll be five whole days in total! How luxurious. In that sense, it is like another Christmas. I’ve been thinking of it as a Saturday and then four Sundays.
Apart from our night away last night I’ve been mostly spending some time pottering around the house, tidying and continuing to clear out stuff, but also trying to make the most of the time to relax a bit.
On Friday we went for a walk along Brighton seafront which was so lovely. We do this a lot in the summer so it was like a sneak peek into the months to come. It was so warm in the sun I had to take my jacket off – definitely not complaining about that! It’s back to being a bit grey now so we definitely chose the right day to do it.
On that note I’ve really been enjoying the milder Spring weather. Despite the crazy heat wave on Friday, it generally hasn’t been warm enough to go out without a jacket but that icy breeze has gone which has made little walks much more pleasant. It also feels like everyone’s mood has been uplifted as a result (yes I always say that but I really think it’s true).
I can’t believe that it’s almost April, where is this year going? My holiday to Menorca is creeping up – which is great as I’m so, so so looking forward to it but it also made me realise that I needed to start doing some shopping. Namely bikini shopping. Ain’t nothing that can make you feel as bad about yourself as bikini shopping. I spent so much time looking for the right one. I wanted something with a print that had short-type bottoms. Something that I wouldn’t feel I had to hide away in or keep pulling into the right place.
I know I’d feel much more comfortable in shorts than teeny briefs and I also want something that actually offers a bit of support and coverage for the boob area. It’s not as easy as it sounds. Am I just getting old or do so many bikinis leave little to the imagination? That sounds ridiculous when it’s essentially underwear that you can wear in the water, but I’ve seen so many thongs or tops that boobs are spilling out of. There’s a lot of side boob going on too.
So I did a lot of online shopping and bought a number of different styles and had a bit of a panic when I didn’t like any of them and felt like a beached whale. But – success – determination over-ruled. I have found not one but TWO bikinis that I like.
This first one is from Next. Ok so I know the bikini bottoms are briefs which kinda goes against what I just said, but they’re sturdy. No thong going on here. And they have a roll top which offers a bit more (adjustable, dare I say?) coverage. I also like the zig zag print which looks a bit tie dye. Perhaps they won’t be fashionable for long then, but for now they’re so pretty and the colours are lovely. The Multi Zig Zag Print bikini top cost £22 while the bottoms cost £14.
How humongous do these bottoms look? Is my arse really that big?! Please don’t answer that…
So anyway, this bikini is from Fat Face and it isn’t actually a set, they’re separate items but the navy blue matches well. The bottoms are super comfortable and just the kind of thing I’m after. I didn’t want anything too plain so the top brings in the pattern nicely.
I was a bit worried that the bikini top ties together with straps around the back as well as the halterneck at the top. So my first thought was, ‘will they come undone’?! That could be pretty embarrassing but wouldn’t be the first time I have accidentally flashed my boobs on the beach (oh the shame). But the material is thick and kind of ribbed which gives it friction so it stays together really well. And the nautical look will never go out of style.
The Breton Stripe Cody bikini top cost £22 and the New Boy Shorts hotpant bikini bottoms cost £18.
They took me so long to find that I’m keeping so I’m sorted for longer as I’ll no doubt have the same problem next time I want to buy a new bikini!
Here’s to sunbathing in comfort AND style!
