I go through periods of trying to eat really healthily – salads for lunch, fruit for snacks and balanced meals making sure I get all the food groups in a day. But I think I overdo it a bit and deny myself the things I really want (mainly I’m a sucker for savoury snacks) which means that I will then give in and binge on naughty food.

Nowadays I try to balance it all out a bit more. I’ll let myself have crisps, chocolate, pizza or garlic bread if I know that I’ve been healthier with my other meals or on other days. I know when I’ve overdone it a bit – I try not to beat myself up but have everything in moderation.
But takeaways with my boyfriend is something that has started happening more regularly. Nearly every Friday night we will have a takeaway of some sort – fish and chips if the budget is tight, pizza or curry if we’re feeling a little flush. Of course, there are increasingly more options for takeaways such as Japanese, Indonesian and Mexican food – so it would be possible to find ‘healthier versions of takeaway food.
The thing is, it feels like a treat on the night because it means no cooking and little washing up, but I always feel guilty immediately afterwards.
Do you give into a takeaway or fast food occasionally? If so, how often is ok?
