I love a good coffee table book. By this, I mean a book that isn’t too taxing; one that can be picked up and any page can be read. It doesn’t need to be read in a chronological order and it’s easy to dip in and out of. It’s not that I don’t love an educational book or a good fiction but I think I probably love coffee table books because I love magazines, and these are a more evergreen version of magazines.
A favourite in my collection (although admittedly it doesn’t live permanently on the coffee table) is The Goddess Guide. It is very much aimed at women who live and breathe fashion and beauty, which isn’t really me, but it has some useful tips in there you can refer to and the design is just beautiful. The illustrations are by the author, Gisele Scanlon. I love the way she’s injected personality into them with layed textures and collage.
Here are a few examples:
Gisele has a blog where you can check out more of her illustrations here.
